·         June 24, 2010: Archie Griffin Visits

The only two-time Heisman Trophy winner in college history came to Raleigh to meet members of our Triangle Alumni Club and other local Buckeye alumni and friends.

Currently serving as The Ohio State University Alumni Association president and

CEO, Griffin is well known for his success on the gridiron. Griffin played for the Ohio State Buckeyes from 1972 – 75 and legendary coach Woody Hayes noted, “He’s a better young man than he is a football player, and he’s the best football player I’ve ever seen.”

With the recent expansion of the Big Ten conference and the continued discussion on the future of all the college conferences, Griffin will provided the ultimate insider’s view of that topic as well as insights into the present and future of The Ohio State University and the Alumni Association, discussing advancements on campus and other important subjects of interest to Ohio State fans.  Nearly 100 attendees attended, having the opportunity to meet and receive autographs from our special guest.

·         Dec 5, 2009: Club Participates in Jingle Bell Run

Members of our club participated in the annual Jingle Bell 5k Run for Arthritis as both runners and volunteers.  Seven Buckeyes showed them Ohio was here by staffing the registration table while nine Buckeyes braved the chilly, drizzly weather to run the race.

Many other Buckeyes participated indirectly through donations to our alumni club team.  During our first year of participation, our team came in second in overall fundraising, and team member Jerry Canterbury was second on an individual basis.  Meanwhile team member Nancy Canterbury won the award for best holiday-themed costume for dressing as an elf.

The staff at the Arthritis Foundation were very appreciative of our efforts and welcomed us to return in 2010.  As a result our club has decided to make the Jingle Bell Run one of our annual signature events.

·         Sep 13, 2009: Martin Hines Honored

The weekend of September 11-13 was a special one for Martin Hines.  He and his wife Ruth went to Columbus for the 63rd reunion of his class from the College of Veterinary Medicine, attended the USC game and celebrated his 85th birthday!  Two front row seats were saved for Martin at the reunion dinner, where Archie Griffin spoke then had his picture taken with Martin.

Many years ago, when we were a fledgling group trying to get our footing, Martin and Ruth were there.  And as you know, even as the oldest member of our club, they are very supportive, attending our annual picnic and of course joining us most Saturdays for Game Watch.

·          Feb 28, 2009: Buckeyes Participate in Bowl for Kids’ Sake

On Saturday, February 28th, the Triangle Buckeyes team, Bucks4Kids, bowled in the annual Bowl For Kids Sake.   The team raised $545.00 for Triangle area kids.  This amount topped last year’s amount.   Thank you to all who participated and generously contributed.

·         Feb 17, 2009: Club Donates to Kay Yow Cancer Fund

Several years ago, our club participated in the Race for a Cure.  In memory of Coach Kay Yow, the OSU Alumni Club of the Triangle made a contribution to the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund.

·         Nov 22, 2009: Club Gathers to See OSU Defeat the Wolverines

A sizable crowd gathered at The Skybox for the final game of the regular season and took great pleasure in Ohio State’s fifth victory in a row against archrival Michigan.  Not only is that the most wins in a row by Ohio State in the series, but the final score of 42-7 represented the largest margin of victory by the Buckeyes since OSU’s 50-14 win in 1968.

Recapture the thrill of game day at Skybox through the pictures of the event we’ve made available online.

Archie Griffin, President and CEO of The Ohio State University Alumni Association, has a message for alumni of the university regarding the value of a membership in the alumni association.  Read Archie’s message on our website.

·         Nov 7, 2009: Vote for the 100th Anniversary All-Alumni Team of Greatest Buckeye Football Players

Nothing brings people together like Buckeye football. From time they enter Ohio State as students through their years as alumni, Buckeyes tailgate together, cheer together, and commiserate together in the rough stretches.

That's why Ohio State Alumni Magazine is marking its upcoming 100th year of publication by inviting alumni to select a 100th Anniversary Team of the greatest players in Buckeye history.

This is your chance to make your voice heard on one of the most enduring pieces of Buckeye culture, the men who built Ohio State’s rich and storied football tradition.

Please, choose responsibly for the following: Offense, Defense, Special Teams, and Head Coach.  You can vote either via a paper ballot in the Ohio State Alumni Magazine or online at the Alumni Association website.

·         Nov 2, 2009: Triangle Club and Officer Win Awards from OSU Alumni Association

At the annual Alumni Leadership Conference in Columbus on September 19, our Ohio State University Alumni Club of the Triangle was recognized by the parent Ohio State University Alumni Association (OSUAA).  Our club was recognized as an Honorable Mention Alumni Club for our efforts to connect alumni with the Alumni Association and the university.  Club president Kathy Cort attended the conference and accepted the award from OSUAA president Archie Griffin on behalf of our club.

Receiving an individual award this year is Craig Parker, the secretary/treasurer of our club.  Across the world Buckeyes are making Ohio State stronger by spreading the word about the University. In order to recognize these efforts, each club had the opportunity to name their own Buckeye All-Star.  The Triangle club is proud to have Craig as our All-Star.
